Self driving technology may revolutionize the trucking industry sooner than we thought it would. The advent of such a technology will affect different classes of people in different ways. Workers in industries like trucking, which is primarily associated with moving goods and services, might find themselves in a tight spot once autonomous vehicles become fully functional. Other industries, where mobility of workers is of importance, self driving technology might actually benefit from such vehicles. They include plumbers, postal workers, and so on. About 3.8 million American are employed in the trucking industry, taxi industry and delivery and this fraction of the population is prone to be negatively impacted by autonomous vehicles.
Fully functional autonomous vehicles will emerge only in the next ten years. This will give enough time for individuals to adapt to new changes and maybe even find other jobs.
Around 11.7 million workers are employed in services such as mail deliver, plumbing and this segment of workers will surely benefit from autonomous vehicles since it will take over the driving duties from the workers.
