Efforts to delay the implementation of the electronic logging device (ELD) mandate has been rejected by the House of Representatives after it convened to review the issue. This means that there are no more obstacles to the implementation of the mandate and it will come into effect on December 18, 2017.
The decision received massive support from the American Trucking Association (ATA). Following this, the mandate will be implemented after almost ten years of debate and delay.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) stated that the vote was ultimately a testament to the efforts of all the organizations that have been involved in moving the proposal for the implementation of ELDs into a legislation. Both the ATA and the FMCSA have said that this move will make the roads safer. Both the organizations have promised the smooth implementation of the mandate.
