The trucking industry is eagerly awaiting the launch of the much talked about Tesla electric semi. Sources are speculating that Tesla might be revealing its latest brain child during the North American Commercial Vehicle (NACV) show.
Electric trucks are a boon to the trucking industry and the environment.
Studies show that about 33% of the nitrogen oxides in California and about 40% of the polluting gases emitted by burning fossil fuels are contributed by heavy duty vehicles such as trucks and buses. Electric trucks are expected to lower the emission of harmful gases by almost 75%, which is quite a significant figure. As the trucking industry is striving to move towards zero emission systems, electric trucks are the right way to go.
The sector for manufacturing these electric trucks holds scope for employment. Skills for working in this sector range from entry-level to highly skilled. Entry-level jobs offer workers around $13 to $20 an hour, which is higher than typical entry-level jobs.
The highest expenses incurred by the trucking industry are fuel costs. With electric trucks, fuel costs can be reduced significantly. Studies have shown that electric trucks deliver a fuel economy that is 2-3 times better than what a diesel engine offers. Electric trucks also deliver great power as compared to diesel engines, making them more efficient.
